Marengo Family Caravan Park is located 2kms from the scenic village of Apollo Bay in the Great Otway National Park, making it the perfect base to start exploring the region's many amazing waterfalls from!

It’s estimated that there are around 500 waterfalls found throughout the national park, however not all of these are easily accessible to the general public. This said many of the most dramatic and beautiful waterfalls can be accessed with ease via car or foot!

Here is a list of our favourite waterfalls near Apollo Bay, all of which can be reached in under 60 minutes drive from the Marengo Family Caravan Park.

Carisbrook Falls (∼18km from the park)

Located only 18km away from the park, Carisbrook Falls can be reached by a short 20 minute drive along the Great Ocean Road. Accessible directly from the road, via a short 300m hike, this scenic waterfall makes a perfect stop off for anyone driving along the coast.

Beauchamp Falls (∼42km from the park)

Located near Hopetoun Falls, the 20m high Beauchamp Falls can be reached within a 60 minutes drive from the park. This scenic waterfall can be accessed via a mostly downhill walk through the rainforest from the picnic area just off the nearby road. Expect the walk to take approximately one hour there and back (3km return), but it’s worth it when you are rewarded with the stunning view of the waterfall crashing into the pool below.

Be aware that swimming at this waterfall site is prohibited, but the breathtaking view more than makes up for it!

Hopetoun Falls (∼44km from the park)

Located just a bit further than Beauchamp Falls, Hopetoun Falls can also be reached within a 60 minutes drive from the park. A viewing platform can be found only 20m from the carpark which offers spectacular views of the 30m high waterfall, as it plunges into the Aire River below. An alternative view of the waterfall can also be accessed by climbing down 200 steps to the base of the falls (allow ∼30 for the round trip between the upper and lower platforms).

Just over 1km away from Hopetoun Falls you’ll find a picnic area nestled amongst a stunning patch of towering Californian Redwoods. This is a perfect lunch spot if you’ve brought your own picnic, and definitely worth making a stop for when taking a trip to the nearby waterfalls.

Triplet Falls (∼51km from the park)

With its reputation for being one of the most dramatic and beautiful waterfalls in the area, combined with it’s relatively easy access, Triplet Falls is probably the most popular waterfall on this list, and deservedly so! This waterfall is located near to the famous Otway Fly Treetop Adventures, making it a must see for those exploring the Great Otways National Park!

The falls can be reached via a scenic one hour walking loop (1.8km) which takes you through the lush rainforest, and is also home to the remains of an original Victorian timber mill!

These are just a few of the scenic waterfalls which can be found near Apollo Bay, but if you’re happy to drive a bit further, more stunning waterfalls can be found up past Lorne to the east, such as the scenic Sheoak, Henderson and Phantom falls, all of which can all be accessed by walking paths starting at the Sheoak Picnic Area.
